One thing I am extremely puzzled by is the amount of work put into the mythology of the cult, yet there seem to be screeching howlers in the logic that spoils what tries to be (and, at least in some of the first 20 minutes do clash for the college students with the rest of the film. but then again, Aster's intelligence makes me wonder if even this is true. Kudos to the two guys who are credited with creating the mythology at the end of the film. My biggest complaint. and many others follow from this pattern of continuity-neglect, let's call it. is the failure to do basic math. By this I mean, if you pay close enough attention to the cultists explanations of Festival times, cycle-times, etc., and you do the math. obviously believing the cultists aren't lying. there is no way the cult would still be in existence, almost certainly extinct not too long after it's first 80-year cycle where Midsommar is supposedly celebrated again and again. If you ever re-watch the film, perhaps you could keep my comment in mind and do the math yourself and correct me if I'm wrong. Numbers play a huge role in the mythology. especially the number 9 (which begs the questions, again, of why the cycle is then 80 years long and not 81 years-long or even 90) and its divisible number, all that is for trivial pursuit type questions but a sign of a lapse in intellectual rigor by Aster, perhaps?
